Create a Peranakan-inspired coaster!
What might upcycled bone inlays mean?
Service Description
Environmental conservation goes beyond caring for the outdoors. How we upcycle materials into daily use also have an impact on the environment as we then reduce the depletion of natural resources. Participants will learn to create your very own Peranakan-inspired coaster using upcycled materials, in different shapes and colours. The coaster itself is done in plywood, an upcycled material too. Learn how the inspiration for this peranakan-inspired coaster came about. Participants will learn why this peranakan-inspired coaster collection is unique and reflective of Peranakan culture. Real world artisans begin the process of inlaying with delicate carved pieces of bone meticulously inserted onto the surface and then surrounded by contrasting resin for an immaculately smooth finish. As a bonus, participants will also learn about the history of bone inlay and its techniques and why this material is an example of how environmental conservation is adopted in creating one's Peranakan-inspired coasters.
